Rising dramatically out of the surrounding plains near Coonabarabran, Warrumbungle National Park protects the eroded remnants of an ancient, extinct shield volcano. Famous for its knife-edge rock walls, soaring stone spires, and crystal-clear night skies, it is recognized as Australia's first Dark Sky Park.
The crown jewel of the park is The Grand High Tops trail, which climbs high into the heart of the range for unforgettable views of The Breadknife, Belougery Spire, and Crater Bluff. Complementing this flagship route are rocky scrambles up Belougery Split Rock, panoramic ridge walks along Fans Horizon and Goulds Circuit, as well as excursions into the nearby ironstone overhangs of the Pilliga Sandstone Caves.
