Rough Crag is a defining feature of the eastern ridge system leading up to High Street. For many experienced walkers, this route is regarded as the finest and most exhilarating way to reach the summit, offering a persistent, scenic ascent along a well-defined spine.

The ridge serves as a dramatic divide, looking north over the deep, rugged basin of Riggindale and south toward the steep, dark waters of Blea Water. It is a route of constant interest, characterized by its sharp elevation changes and commanding views over some of the most striking scenery in the Far Eastern Fells.
