Ill Crag is the fourth highest peak in England. It forms part of the Scafell chain, and lies about 1 km east of Scafell Pike. Often overshadowed by its illustrious neighbor, Ill Crag stands as a rugged and formidable presence in the heart of the Southern Fells. Reaching an elevation of 935 meters, it feels wilder and more desolate than the tourist-trodden paths just to its west. The summit itself is a classic Lakeland jumble—a chaotic, beautiful landscape of shattered rock and large boulders that demand careful, deliberate footwork.

While many hikers pass its slopes while navigating the main thoroughfares towards the Pike, those who pause to stand atop the crag are rewarded with one of the most intimate and untamed vantage points in the range, offering a distinct perspective back towards the massive bulk of Scafell and the deep, sweeping valleys stretching out below.
