The mighty Honister Crag
Honister Crag
Towering precipitously over the B5289 pass road connecting Borrowdale to Buttermere, Honister Crag forms the dramatic eastern shoulder of Fleetwith Pike. Famous for its sheer slate precipices and historic slate workings, the cliff edge drops away almost vertically above the pass summit.
In November 2004, Honister Crag was officially upgraded to become a Nuttall fell due to holding 20 metres (67 feet) of topographical prominence from Fleetwith Pike. This marked the very first addition to the official Nuttalls list since its original publication in 1990.

The high point directly above the main crag face is known locally as Black Star, marked by a stone cairn resting atop the rim. Perched directly over the abyss, the summit commands outstanding views across the Honister Pass to Dale Head, Hindscarth, and down into the upper reaches of Borrowdale.
