"High Crag is the least known of the three linked peaks of the High Stile range towering above the Buttermere valley and is the lowest in elevation, but concedes nothing in grandeur and ruggedness to the other two, High Stile and Red Pike, its formidable northern buttress being the finest object in the group."
High Crag is a popular fell located on the ridge separating Buttermere from Ennerdale and represents the eastern end of the Buttermere Fells.
Gamlin End is one of High Crag's more impressive features, a great scree slope falling 200m down towards Buttermere. Originally, this represented one of the only routes up to the summit, a walk that Wainwright disliked so much he found his own way via a rake up Burtness Comb. Nowadays, a new pitched path makes the going much easier.
From the summit at the top of Gamlin End, the views of the head of Ennerdale and the Scafells are particularly good.
