The domed West Top of Cold Pike
Cold Pike West Top
Cold Pike West Top is a distinct, undulating subsidiary summit of Cold Pike, rising out of the rough, pool-studded plateau that steps away from Red Crag. While the main parent peak draws the majority of the mountain traffic, this western crown offers a quiet, unhurried detour over fractured stone and high mountain turf. Possessing just enough topographical independence to be listed as a standalone peak on the Nuttall registry, it is a fantastic spot to escape the main ridge trail and study the rugged flank of the Upper Duddon Valley.
A modest collection of stones sits on the summit
The summit itself is a broad, gentle dome of grass and exposed rock, marked by a modest, unassuming collection of loose stones. Pausing by this small pile rewards you with a fine, open view across the lonely moorlands, providing a brilliant, close-up perspective of Cold Pike's true high point to the east and the massive, brooding ridges of the higher fells beyond.
