The swampy summit
Possibly boggier than the mighty Kinder Scout, Brown Knoll forms part of the ring of hills surrounding the head of the Vale of Edale. Recent path restoration work has paved the route between Brown Knoll and Rushup Edge.

The broad, shallow slopes are cut off by neighbouring hills though a prominent ridge heads westwards from the summit, forming the lesser heights of South Head and Mount Famine.

The summit is topped by a trig pillar that stands. As the summit is very broad, the views are limited.
