Gallt y Wenallt is a subsidiary summit of Y Lliwedd and lies at the end of the north ridge.

Its northern face is reputed to be the longest slope in Snowdonia, being close to 2000 ft. It is also the last nail in the "completist's" Snowdon Horseshoe.

The summit is grassy and is marked with a small cairn. In clear visibility, the view down to Llyn Gwynant is regarded as one of the finest in Snowdonia.

  1. This is a very dangerous slope. Many years ago a friend of mine, one of 2 who fell, lost his life here one day in July after it had rained and when, despite as the inquest said being suitably and well-equipped, he slipped on wet grass just below the summit, tumbling 600 feet but though rescued died on his way to hospital. The other faller survived with a few cuts and bruises, putting his survival down to having a rucksack with a waist band which protected his head. The other walker's rucksack did not and we never found it. All of us on this walk were experienced and wore appropriate footwear and other gear. Unfortunately some of that gear (ie waterproof trousers which became lethal that day and which we were all wearing) contributed to this tragedy. Once the 2 walkers fell we all removed our waterproof trousers then really struggled down that grassy slope to reach the 2 fallers. Sadly, no matter how well equipped and prepared people are in the hills, tragedies still happen.
