Tucked away in the peaceful Welsh Marches, Radnor Forest is an extraordinary, isolated upland dome standing proud of the surrounding rolling Powys countryside. Used as a royal hunting forest in medieval times, this wild, high-altitude plateau is carved by deep, steep-sided dingles like Harley Dingle, offering an immense feeling of remoteness and solitude that is rarely found in the busier national parks.
The high point of Radnor Forest is Great Rhos (660m), accompanied across the high moorland plateau by the radio-masted summit of Black Mixen (650m) and the eastern ridge of Bache Hill (610m). Together, these three summits form the complete set of 2,000ft Nuttalls within this quiet, forgotten corner of Mid Wales—offering expansive horizons that sweep from the Shropshire Hills across to the Brecon Beacons.
